Möwenstein (Ummanz)

The Möwenstein is transported by glacial activity in the area of ​​present-day island of Bornholm to the south boulder. It is located on the island of Rügen Ummanz in the West in the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. There boulders are relatively rare, most are located in the east of the island of Rügen.

The stone is damaged by drilling holes and it is to be feared consequential damage due to frost damage.

The legally protected as a natural monument block of granite Syenogranit hammer is recorded at the Regional Office for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Geology as Geotop under the number 91 G2. The stone is 5.7 meters long, 3.7 meters wide and 2.5 meters high. With a circumference of 15.0 meters, it has a volume of about 27 cubic meters.

Access

The Möwenstein is in the bird sanctuary on the dike at Tankow and is of the weak make out the observation deck for bird watching. Direct access is restricted by the seasonal nature protection legislation.
