Mr. Blue Sky is a song by British rock band Electric Light Orchestra from the album Out of the Blue from the year 1976. The song is the fourth piece of the Concerto for a Rainy Day Suite on the third page of the original double LP. The piece ends with an invitation from Jeff Lynne " Turn me around ". The song was the fourth Hot 100 top 40 song of the album, which was released in November 1977. The single reached number 6 in the UK charts and number 35 in the United States. It was published as a special edition on blue vinyl.

Formation

The song was written by Jeff Lynne in Switzerland. The inspiration comes from a brief moment of good weather after a long period of rain. The song was voted the "Hymn of Midlands " before songs like Come on Eileen and Stairway to Heaven and before each home game of Birmingham City FC played in honor of Jeff Lynne and his lifelong support and friendship with the former football player Trevor Francis.
