The Asuka II is a moving under the flag of Japan cruise ship. The ship was built in 1990 as Crystal Harmony for the cruise line Crystal Cruises. It is a sister ship of the Crystal Symphony.

History

The launching of the ship took place on September 30, 1989 at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard in Nagasaki, Japan. After the equipment and the final the ship took in July 1990 to its cruise service. The cost of construction amounted to approximately $ 240 million U.S..

On 26 February 2006, the delivery of the ship to the shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha daughter was with the renaming in Asuka II ( "The Flying Bird ," dt ", the flying bird "). Currently ( April 2012) is the Asuka II, the largest Japanese cruise ship.

Equipment

The Asuka II has eight decks are accessible to passengers. The ship has two pools, eight bars, a casino and a fitness center. To entertain the guests there is on board a theater with 277 seats. Further, there are 461 outside cabins, 260 of them with balcony and 19 inside cabins.

Trivia

During the maiden voyage of the Crystal Harmony through Caribbean waters broke through a leak in the engine system of fire. The ship drifted for three days by the sea until it was towed in for repair in dry dock connector to Curaçao. The passengers of this cruise were brought ashore in Panama.

On 11 May 2000, a fire occurred in the ventilation shaft. The fire was extinguished within about 20 minutes. The ship was at that time in the harbor of Victoria and drove the next day to Vancouver. Later it was found that the fire was caused by the failure of the cooling of a generator and the resulting thereby overheating.
