Muasdale

Muasdale is a small village in the Scottish unitary authority Argyll and Bute. It is located about 20 kilometers north- west of Campbeltown and 33 kilometers southwest of Tarbert on the west coast of the sparsely populated peninsula at the southern end of the Kintyre Gigha Sound. Opposite lies the island of Cara. In 1961, 73 inhabitants were counted in Muasdale. In more recent census data, the town is no longer listed separately. In Muasdale the Bach Clachaig Water flows into the sea, which flows from Loch na Naich in the center of Kintyre.

Traffic

The village is located just off the A83, which connects the Kintyre peninsula on the Central Belt. Although in particular the West Coast Kintyres was only sparsely populated in the past, already existed in 1750 a path through Muasdale, which proved to be significant enough to be listed in William Roy's map series. The road bridge in Muasdale was recently renewed and replaced it an old arch bridge over the Clachaig Water. In the northern neighboring Tayinloan there is a ferry boat to the island of Gigha.

Attractions

North of Muasdale can be found on a hill the remains of a Duns called Dun Domhnuill. This measured 15 m × 7.5 m, however, is now largely destroyed. East of the village is a stone with cup-and -ring markings. Located on the coast between Muasdale and Tayinloan with the Killean and Kilchenzie Parish Church, a monument of the highest category A. Scottish Monument Built in 1791 in the Georgian style church building is still in use.
