Much Ado About Nothing (1993 film)

Much Ado About Nothing is a film adaptation of the eponymous play by William Shakespeare from the year 1993. Directed by Kenneth Branagh from his own screenplay.

Action

Several men return after a victorious battle on a Leonatos estate. In the walls and in the sunny gardens ensues between them and the ladies present a courtship, follow the intricate intrigue.

Claudio and Benedict have fought the campaign with Don Pedro against his half-brother Don Juan. Leonato, governor of Messina, invites them to stay for a month in Messina, and Don Pedro accepts the invitation. Claudio sets out to win the hand of Hero, Leonato's daughter. In the meantime, Leonatos eloquent niece Beatrice and Benedict deliver verbal battles. Both are known to take in dealing with their fellow human beings not mince words. And both cherish for a long, apparently causeless dislike of each other.

Claudio and Hero are engaged quickly and decide together with others to shorten the time until the wedding so, Benedict and Beatrice to lure into the love trap. Claudio, Leonato and Don Pedro leave Benedict overhear a conversation in which they discuss how much Beatrice suffer, but because they really love him. Benedict decides to take pity on her and return her love. Hero and her maid Ursula will hold a similar conversation within earshot of Beatrice. Immediately she chooses to be friendly to Benedict.

Don Juan, Don Pedro's illegitimate brother wants to make mischief by preventing the wedding. To prove Heros infidelity, he staged in the window of Hero's chamber a scene between his henchman Borachio and Heros maid Margaret, in which she is wearing hero clothes and leaves Claudio believe that Hero is unfaithful to him. Claudio falls for the spectacle. On the wedding day, he accused them publicly and denied the marriage. Hero faints and the monk advises to leave all in the belief that Hero had died in the light of shame, to their honor is restored.

Left alone in the church, Benedict and Beatrice confess their mutual love. Beatrice is convinced of Hero's innocence and takes Benedict to promise, for the damage he has done to kill his friend Claudio.

However, before the duel can take place, hero honor is restored: In the night when the staging of Don Juan took place, the guards Borachio and its allies have taken Konrad. Despite the comic inability of the guards they have heard, as the two have their evil plans discussed, and understood that Hero was wronged. After hearing her testimony, Leonato is fully convinced of Hero's innocence.

Claudio experiences deep contrition whether the debt through him " death" of his bride. Leonato promises to marry him to his niece, who looks exactly like Hero. Of course, it turns out that it is indeed the living Hero itself. At the wedding Benedict and Beatrice fall back into their old patterns, with much wit to deny their mutual love, to Hero and Claudio love poems bring out who wrote mutually Benedict and Beatrice. The story ends in a joyful double wedding and the arrest of Don Juan's on the run from Messina.

Comments

All dialogs of the people come from, without exception, the original text of Shakespeare, as in all Shakespeare films of Kenneth Branagh. The five-hour play was only heavily cut for the film and partially converted the sequence of scenes.

Although Shakespeare's play in Sicilian Messina is located, found the footage in the surroundings of Greve in Chianti Tuscan place predominantly on the grounds of the Villa Vignamaggio.

In several scenes, the monk, the Hero and Claudio, the musical theme of the film is set to marry on a guitar. The credits can be seen that this was actually played by the composer Patrick Doyle, who also provided the entire soundtrack for the film.
