History

The name of the station can be roughly translated as " mud slide ". This expression refers to a tailings pond, which emerged during the construction of the docks in the 1840s. The excavation and the silt from the harbor and waterways were deposited centrally here. By the time a hilly landscape, which developed into a recreational area was created.

The station was opened on 31 August 1987, together with the DLR Grundetz. From 10 February to 16 April 1996, the track was south of Heron Quays closed because of an IRA attack on the South Quay station. After the construction of the extension under the Thames had begun to pass in the direction of Lewisham, which located on a viaduct station had to be relocated. It was closed on January 8, 1999 and replaced by a new facility. This is located in a recess just before the tunnel entrance and was opened on 20 November 1999, together with the section between Crossharbour and Lewisham.

Originally, the station Millwall Dock should have said. But when the DLR was built it was the Millwall FC, the stadium is on the other side of the river, particularly hard hit by hooligan incidents. Since it was feared the actually foreseen name could attract unwanted and potentially violent people, the choice fell on Mudchute.
