Muhammad Hamidullah

Muhammad Hamidullah ( born February 19, 1908 in Hyderabad, India, † December 17, 2002 in Jacksonville, Florida) was an Indian Islamic scholar.

Life

Hamidullah grew up as the youngest of eight children. After getting the first education through its shaped by Islamic scholarship family, he began schooling at the Daru'l Ulum Madrasa and the Jamia Nizamia in Hyderabad. Then Hamidullah studied international law at the Osmania University. Later, he has dealt in detail with books on Islamic international law, as they stockpile the libraries of the Hijaz, Syria, Palestine, Egypt and Turkey. His dissertation wrote Hamidullah 1933 in Bonn at the Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms- University on the same theme in order to subsequently pursue further research in Paris. Hamidullah receives a doctorate ( D.ès.L. ) ​​at the Sorbonne (Paris) in 1935. Besides Hamidullah has used many North African libraries. After returning to India, he was able to resume his work at the University Osmaniya. While he was appointed in 1948 as a professor and occupationally staying temporarily abroad, the State of Hyderabad was occupied by the Indian government. Hamidullah decided not to return to Hyderabad, but to establish themselves as a political refugee in France.

Hamidullah was at many universities such as France, Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey organized lectures and conferences. In 1952 he entered the University of Istanbul at work, where he worked for several years as a professor at the Faculty of Literature at the Institute of Islamic research and in Erzurum at the Faculty of Islamic Studies of Atatürk University. In addition, he wrote many scientific articles for theological journals. He was also a member of the French National Research Agency ( CNRS).
