Muhammad Khan Junejo

Muhammad Khan Junejo ( Urdu محمد خان جونیجو, Sindhi محمد خان جوڻيجو; born August 18, 1932 † March 16, 1993 ) was a Pakistani politician and Prime Minister of Pakistan's 1985 through 1988.

Life

Junejo was born in the village in the district of Tharparkar Sindhri / Sindh. He earned a degree in agriculture in the UK. 1962 was elected to the West Pakistan Provincial Assembly and held several ministerial posts from 1963 in the local provincial government.

After partial restoration of suspended since the military coup of 1977 Constitution and the elections of 1985 Junejo was appointed by Mohammed Zia ul- Haq as Prime Minister of Pakistan. In November 1985, the 8th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted, by a semi- presidential system of government was implemented. In return, the state of emergency was lifted and restored some fundamental rights. Junejo sat among others for the signing of the Geneva Accord ( April 1988) to end the war in Afghanistan. In May 1988, he was dismissed by Zia citing its special powers after the 8th Amendment, at the same time, provincial governments and parliaments were dissolved. Zia's dictatorship ended a few months later by his death in a plane crash.

1990 Junejo was elected to the National Assembly. He died in 1993 after a long illness.
