Mühlenteich (Wismar)

The mill pond is a pond in the city of Wismar in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The water is highly structured. There is a distinctive South Bay with two smaller islands and a pronounced north bay. The lake has a north- south extent of about 1700 meters and a maximum east-west extent of about 400 meters. Larger parts of the pond shore, especially in the south are mostly swampy and verschilft. The pent-up in the pond Wallenstein ditch flows to the southwest and leaves again in the north. In addition, in the west of the mill brook flows from the city center in the Baltic Sea. Another tributary is a trench from the southeast. The southwest part of the water is part of the nature reserve pond area Wismar Kluß. The pond is used for commercial trout farm.

At times, served the mill pond of the drinking water supply of Wismar. As in the siege of Wismar in 1675 the water pipes were cut from sources in Metelsdorf, the relation of water turned from one region to be disadvantageous. Therefore, water was further from the mill pond in a former defensive tower that was part of the city fortifications and today is called Old Water Tower, promoted and passed on from there since 1685. Because of cholera, drain the water from the pond was not allowed to be mixed with the water Metelsdorfer since 1892.
