Mukhtarov Mosque

The Sunni Mosque (Russian Суннитская мечеть, Sunnitskaja metschet, also known as Muchtarow Mosque, Russian Мечеть Мухтарова, Metschet Muchtarowa; Ossetian Мухтаровы мæзджыт, Muxtarovy mæzdžyt ) is located in the capital of the Russian republic of North Ossetia-Alania Vladikavkaz.

The Azerbaijani Oilmen Murtusa Muchtarow (1865-1920) had the mosque built 1906-1908. It is therefore also known as Muchtarow Mosque. It was built by the Polish architect Józef Płoszko (1867-1931; Russian Iossif Ploschko, also Plaschko ), who worked until the First World War, particularly in Baku. For the interior design of RI Doleschal was responsible.

1934, the mosque was to be demolished, then remained but was converted into a branch of the local history museum ( Krajewedtscheski musei ) and declared a National Monument in 1960. In 1996 the mosque was returned to the Spiritual Board of Muslims of North Ossetia.
