The Mulhacen [ mulaθen ] with 3,482, according to other sources 3,479 meters the highest mountain of mainland Spain and the Iberian peninsula generally. It is located in the province of Granada in the Sierra Nevada ( Betic Cordillera ) near Granada.

The Mulhacen is the highest mountain in the continent of Europe outside the Alps and the Caucasus. Spain's highest mountain is the 3,718 m high Mount Teide on Tenerife.

The name derives from one of the last kings and emirs of the Kingdom of Granada, Abu l -Hasan Ali (Spanish Muley hacen ), who was buried there according to the legend at his request.

Routes
