Luís Antônio Corrêa da Costa, known as Müller, ( born January 31, 1966 in Campo Grande ) is a former Brazilian footballer.

Career

Association

Müller played in Brazil for Sao Paulo, with which he could win the 1985 and 1987 regional state championship. More significant, however, was winning the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol 1986. 1988 Müller ventured for the first time in his career to move abroad and signed with Italian Serie A club Torino Calcio. He immediately became a regular player, could relegation to Serie B but not prevent it. Nevertheless, the attacker remained loyal to the club and shot him with his goals in the 1989/90 season again in the highest soccer league in the country. After the climb, he left Turin and joined his former club Sao Paulo, where he was able to repeatedly win the national championship. In 1992 and 1993 he moved also twice in a row with his team to the finals of the Copa Libertadores before. There could Müller 1992, on the side of players like Raí and Cafu, only the CA Newell 's Old Boys of Argentina and the year after the CD Universidad Católica of Chile defeat, with him 1993 they had a hit in a 5-1 first-leg win. Due to this success they had in the tournament to play each entitled to the World Cup. Under the leadership of coach Santana Telê the Tricolor in both years were able to win. After the successful years in the home country, Mr. Müller 1994 again into the distance and he wore for a year the jersey of the Japanese Association Kashiwa Reysol. From 1995 until his retirement in late 2004 Müller played for different clubs in Brazil and was successful with these more or less. In January 1997, he spent a short interlude again to Italy for AC Perugia, but returned soon back in the summer of the same year.

National

Müller was Brazil's national team and played a total of 56 times for the Seleção, scoring 20 goals. He took part in the World Championships 1986 ( five appearances ), 1990 ( four inserts) and 1994 ( a bet), scoring two goals. In the tournament of 1994 he became world champion with Brazil, but did not in the final used.

His stage name " Müller " he chose on the basis of the German footballer Gerd Muller. Against Germany, he completed his first international game: March 12, 1986, he was defeated by Brazil 0-2 in Frankfurt am Main.
