Mumiy Troll

Mumi Troll (Russian Мумий Тролль [ mum ʲ ij trɔl ʲ ], English transcription Mumiy troll from " Moomin Troll " ) is a Russian rock band that was founded in 1984 by linguist Ilia Lagutenko in Vladivostok.

Lagutenko was oriented in the naming of the characters from the books of the Swedish-Finnish author Tove Jansson, the " Moomin trolls ".

Mumi Troll began as a garage band during the last years of the Soviet Union. As the view towards the rock music was better, they became popular in Vladivostok. However, the band broke up, as Lagutenko, the standard Chinese and English speaking, went to work for a consulting company in the People's Republic of China and the United Kingdom, but it was re-established after his return to Russia. They were enormously popular after it in May 1997 their first (official ) album Morskaja ( Морская, to German Navy), which published a mix of melodic hard rock and Lagutenkos offbeat lyrics and performance. The second album ikra ( Икра, to German caviar) was equally successful.

Their next album was released three years later, when the popularity of the band had taken off again. Nevertheless Mumi Troll is still one of Russia's most popular bands. They represented Russia at Euro Vision Song Contest 2001, where they were in twelfth with the song Lady Alpine Blue.
