Municipal Council of Macau

The Loyal Senate ( Leal Senado ) of the Portuguese colony of Macao was a meeting of Chinese and Portuguese diplomats at which primarily trade issues were discussed.

The Senate was given the nickname loyal because he refused to recognize the Kingdom of Spain, with Portugal was from 1580 to 1640 joined in a personal union as a new leading power in Macao. For this reason, blew during this period, not the Spanish, but continued the Portuguese flag over Macao.

Portugal rewarded this loyalty by Macao in 1654 the title of Cidade do Nome de Deus Não Ha Outra corn Leal gave ( city in the name of God, there is no more loyal ). The name is immortalized in the arms of the Leal Senado on a banner.
