Leichhardt is part of the metropolis of Sydney, capital of New South Wales. The area is 11 km ² in size and has about 49,000 inhabitants.

Leichhardt is located south of the harbor in the center of the Inner City of Sydney and is bordered to the east by the city center. The area includes 10 districts: Balmain, Balmain East, Birchgrove, Cockatoo Iceland, Glebe Point, Leichhardt, Lilyfield, Rozelle and parts of Annandale and West Gate. The seat of the Municipality Councils located in the district in the southwest of Leichhardt LGA.

It was named after the German explorer Ludwig Leichhardt Australia.

Management

The Leichhardt Council has twelve members who are elected by the residents of the four Wards (three from Councillor Birrabirragal / Balmain, Wangal / Rozelle - Lilyfield, Gadigal / Annandale Leichhardt and Eora / Leichhardt - Lilyfield Ward). These four districts are set independently of the districts. From the circle of Councillor also the Mayor ( Mayor ) of the Council recruited.
