Munt la Shera in the Swiss National Park

The Munt la Shera ( 2'586, 7 m above sea level. M. ) is a mountain in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.

The mountain is located in the Swiss National Park; north at the foot of the Munt la Shera runs the Ofen Pass road, in the south lies the Lago di Livigno, the majority is located on the Italian territory, and the dam Punt dal Gall, where the Livigno reservoir in the Spölschlucht, Switzerland, drained.

For the construction of the dam Punt dal Gall, which was completed in 1968, was created by the Swiss side of a tunnel under the Munt la Shera. This was used for the transport of construction materials for the 130 -meter high arch dam. After the wall completed and the lake was flooded, the tunnel was opened with restriction also to general traffic. Owner of the tunnel are the Engadine power plants.

From there, the road runs - constantly on the banks of the reservoir along - west across the Punt dal Gall and then south to Livigno. The Swiss Customs Station is located at the northern tunnel portal, the Italian customs at the west end of the dam, over which runs the border.

The tunnel is only one lane, the change of direction is usually every 15 minutes. Open to vehicles with a maximum height of 3.6 meters and a maximum width of 2.5 meters. Usage is subject to charge, the toll is paid at the south portal. Since 1 January 2010, the track is open all day, before the tunnel was closed at night. Since mid-2008, the driving of the tunnel with bicycles was officially banned, operates from mid-June to mid- September, daily from 10:00 clock to 15:00 clock, every half hour for a fee shuttle bus for cyclists.
