Murang'a

Murang'a, often in the spelling of Muranga, is a small town about 70 kilometers northeast of Nairobi in Kenya with about 11,000 inhabitants ( 1999).

History

In colonial times, the city of Fort Hall said. Murang'a is the capital of the district in the Central Province in Kenya. In Murang'a District especially coffee is grown at higher altitudes also tea. The residents are mostly Kikuyu.

Infrastructure

Murang'a has banks, gas stations, post office, hotels and restaurants, as well as several supermarkets and local Märktplätze. 500 m north of the city, there is a District General Hospital. The Murang'a Thika road leads to Nyeri and Nairobi. In the city center there is a Matatu Station. The Cathedral of St.. Heart of Jesus comes from 1902.

Education

At 800 students, the school and the boarding Murang'a High School visit. This boys' school, one of the oldest in Kenya, is operated by the Catholic Church. The Medical Training College one kilometers outside the city center dates from 1950, trains nurses and offers a degree diplomas in Clinical Medicine.
