The Technical University of Muroran (Japanese室 兰 工业 大学, Muroran Kōgyō daigaku, English Muroran Institute of Technology, in short. Murokōdai (室 工 大) ) is a state university in Japan. It is located in Mizumotochō, Muroran in Hokkaidō Prefecture.

History

The University's history began in 1887 with the establishment of technical education department at the Agricultural University Sapporo. The technical school named some time around, and in 1947 it was called technical college department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hokkaido (北海道 大学 附属 土木 専 门 部, Hokkaidō daigaku fuzoku Doboku Semmon - bu).

In 1939, the Higher Technical School was Muroran (室 兰 高等 工业 学校, Muroran Kōtō Kōgyō Gakko ) founded (divisions: Machine Science, electrical engineering, chemistry, mining and metallurgy ), and in 1941 they moved to the present Mizumotochō campus. In 1944 she was in pilot Muroran (室 兰 工业 専 门 学校, Muroran Kōgyō Semmon Gakko ) renamed.

In 1949 the Technical University Muroran was founded through the merger of the two colleges. In 1990, she received the right to award doctorates.
