Geography
Geographical location
Murr is located in the natural area Neckarbecken in 196-261 meters altitude at the Murr, two kilometers from its mouth into the Neckar river and removed about 12 km north of the county town of Ludwigsburg. An uninhabited enclave in the Hardt forest at Rielingshausen is the natural space allocated to the Swabian- Franconian Forest.

Neighboring communities in the West Pleidelsheim, Marbach am Neckar Benningen in the south and the southwest, and Steinheim an der Murr in the east, which goes directly into the municipal area of Murr.

History
The lower Bitzer, and thus the area of the municipality is Murr, inhabited since thousands of years. First archaeological finds date from the Neolithic period and extend to the Roman period. A Roman consecration stone testifies to 200 AD. the first time the " villagers at the Murr ". The present town dates back to an Alemannic settlement and is first documented in 972. In the 13th century Murr seat was an episcopal speyerischen country chapter and came to Württemberg in 1302. Murr, which belonged to the office / Oberamt Marbach from the 15th century until 1938, was next to Marbach and Steinheim seat of the last time in 1839, which meets Hardt court. From 1517 to 1871 funeral timber was floated from the Swabian- Franconian Forest on the Murr to the previous raft bridge where there was a large storage space. Until the 20th century Murr was an agricultural center with street character of the village on the old national road from Ludwigsburg by the Bottwartal to Heilbronn.
Religions
Since the introduction of the Reformation in Württemberg also Murr is dominated Protestant. So there is still a Protestant congregation in the village, while the Catholics have to go to church to Steinheim an der Murr.

Coat of arms and flag
The municipal coat of arms is under golden head of the shield, is a black stag bar, split of gold and red, front a red cup, back erect a golden bugle with pointing to a split green bondage. The municipality flag is red and yellow and was awarded on 18 April 1980.
Economy and infrastructure
Agriculture and viticulture were to the early 20th century, the main sources of income. The layers are Großlage Schalk stone in the area Württembergisch lowlands of the Württemberg wine region. Today, only a few farmers cultivate about 400 ha. However, the nursery, conditionally acquired by the proximity to the large markets of the middle Neckar Area, a certain importance.
Was it the work offered in the 1950s, only a few crafts and industries at the site, so their numbers have greatly increased. Today almost all sectors are represented in a 30 -hectare industrial area near the motorway: From remodeler to mechanical engineering; about 2000 jobs are there in Murr.
Traffic
Murr is well served by three kilometers away Pleidelsheim junction of the Federal Highway 81 to the national road network.
The nearest train station ( with the line S 4 S-Bahn Stuttgart ) is located in Marbach, four kilometers away, where there is a bus ( line 460).
By 1968, Murr had a station on the narrow gauge Bottwartalbahn from Marbach to Heilbronn South. The reception building is a later spiked Württemberg unit station of type I.

Education
Murr has its own primary and secondary school with Werkrealschule. For the smallest population, there are three kindergartens.
Supply and disposal
The electricity and gas network in the community is operated by the Syna GmbH. The drinking water comes in part from two deep wells in Bitzer and partly from foreign water, which is supplied by the state water supply. The purpose of association group Häldenmühle sewage treatment plant is responsible for wastewater treatment in Murr and Marbach, Steinheim, Großbottwar, Erdmannshausen and Benningen. The waste is taken from the Abfallverwertungsgesellschaft of the district Ludwigsburg mbH ( AVL), a 100 % subsidiary of the district Ludwigsburg. AVL is mandated to carry out the tasks for the prevention, recovery and disposal of waste on behalf of the district Ludwigsburg.
