Murray Elder, Baron Elder

Thomas Murray Elder, Baron Elder known as Murray Elder (born 9 May 1950) is a Labour member of the British House of Lords.

Life and career

Elder Graduated his education at Kirkcaldy High School and studied at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated with a Master of Arts in Economic History. Gordon Brown was one of his friends in childhood.

From 1972 to 1980 he worked for the Bank of England. From 1984 to 1992 he was a member of the Scottish Labour Party, since 1988 Secretary General. From 1989 to 1992 was also a Labour member of the Executive Board of the Scottish Constitutional Convention.

He was appointed as Baron Elder of Kirkcaldy in Fife for Life Peer on 19 July 1999.

He is according to Chris Smith and Alan Haworth, the third Westminster MPs, all Munros ( all mountains in Scotland, the ft higher than 3000 ( 914.4 m) ) have climbed. With the Beinn Sgritheall he ascended on 9 June 2007 the last of the 284 peak.

Elder is the Chancellor of the Al- Maktoum College, postgraduate courses in Dundee, Scotland offers.
