Murree

Murree is a small town in the province of Punjab in northern Pakistan in the region Galyat.

It was built in 1851 by the British Governor of Punjab, Sir Henry Lawrence as so-called Hill Station and has always been a tourist resort. There still remain many buildings from the period. Meanwhile, it is believed by the Ahmadiyya community, that the Virgin Mary (mother of Jesus of Nazareth ) is buried in Murree. Muree is located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level. From here one has a good view of the surrounding mountains to those of the Himalayas. In addition to the views and the nature of the place is also popular in the summer because of its mild temperatures.

Muree is of Islamabad - Rawalpindi in two hours on a good road distance.

Tourism

Murree is economically very dependent on tourism. Due to the geographical proximity to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, Murree is one of the most visited places in the northern mountainous region of the country. Especially for honeymoons Murree is a popular destination. In addition, the surrounding areas as Bhurban and Partriata were touristy evolved greatly in the last decades.
