Mürzsteg Alps

The Miirzsteg Alps are a mountain range in the eastern Alps (Northern Alps), located in Styria, with small amounts in Lower Austria. The highest mountain is the High Veitsch (1981 m above sea level. A. ) in the center of the group whose 's most extensive solid but Schneealpe (1903 m above sea level. A. ) is in the northwest near the Rax.

At the Miirzsteg Alps border in the North, the Türnitzer Alps, in the north-east the Good Steiner Alps, in the east the Rax -Schneeberg Group, in the southeast, the mountain range east of the Mur (especially the Fischbacher Alps) and in the west of the high Schwab.

Geology

The mountain range is part of the Styrian- Lower Austrian Limestone Alps and is bordered by the neighboring massifs by the Muerztal ( = part of the tectonically still active Mur- Murz - furrow ), the upper reaches of Murz ( capital Miirzsteg ) and the Seeberg Pass road. It is referred to by geologists as emerging and basin facies

Your rocks are mostly from the Triassic ( Hallstatt facies ) with Wettersteinkalk, Hallstatt limestone and Mürztaler layers ( dark, horn- stone leading limestone and marl with foraminifers, brachiopods, and other fossils ), while the west adjacent high Schwab (up to 2277 m above sea level. A. ) also has reef limestones. The south of the mountain range is one with a up to 10 km wide strip for Grauwackenzone ( rocks from Jung- Paleozoic and Lower Triassic; Mürztaler Alps).
