Muscat Précoce de Saumur

Précoce Muscat de Saumur is a white grape variety. She was selected in 1842 by Auguste Courtiller from seedlings of open withered vine variety Pinot. It is a very early maturing variety and, therefore, early maturing varieties was often used for new variety ( Riesling → ​​Gold or Pearl of Csaba ).

Auguste Courtiller (1795-1875) worked in the Jardin des Plantes, the city of Saumur. Since 1834 he put on both a floral park and a nursery on the site of the city.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is only woolly hairy, greenish with pinkish approach. The bright green young leaves are slightly hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed (rarely also siebenlappig ) and deeply sinuate. The petiole is lyrenförmig open to almost closed. The blade is serrated blunt and the leaf surface (also called leaf blade ) is vesicular coarse.
  • The drum-shaped cluster is small and dichtbeerig. The roundish berries are small and of a whitish color. The berry has a thick skin and a faint aroma of nutmeg; because of the thick shell, the variety be easily transported and used as a table grape.

The grape ripens about 15 - 20 days after Chasselas, and thus is considered very early maturing.
