Musée du Petit Palais, Avignon

The Musée du Petit Palais ( German Museum in Little Palace) is a museum and art gallery in Avignon in France.

History and inventory

The museum was opened in 1976. The stocks came from the Musée Calvet Avignon and the Louvre in Paris.

The museum is housed in a building dating from the 14th century and is located near the great Popes' Palace of Avignon. The present museum building was formerly the official residence of the Archbishop of Avignon and is used to distinguish the Palace of the Popes as Small Palace ( fr. Petit Palais ) refers.

The museum exhibits including a collection of works by the School of Avignon, the art at the court of the Popes, as they resided there from 1309 to 1376 and, from paintings from the period of the Italian Renaissance, some of which come from the collection of Giampietro Campana this the end of the 19th century sold to the French State.
