Musée national Jean-Jacques Henner

The Musée Jean -Jacques Henner (also the Musée national Jean -Jacques Henner ) is an art museum in Paris. It is located in the 17th arrondissement and houses works of the painter Jean-Jacques Henner.

History

The Museum in the Avenue de Villiers # 43 in 1878 for the painter Guillaume Dubufe ( 1853-1909), built as a residence and studio. This building acquired in 1921 a niece of the painter Jean -Jacques Henner, whose desire was to open a museum herein. After the house was remodeled for museum purposes, the inauguration of the house by the French education minister Léon Bérard was held on 7 March 1924. Since 1943, the museum is one of the National Museums ( Réunion des Musées Nationaux ). After extensive refurbishment, the museum is open again to the public since the fall of 2009.

The Collection

The seven exhibition rooms of the hotel are furnished with personal items such as furniture, carpets and handicrafts from the possession Henner. The museum has more than 500 paintings and more than 1,000 drawings by Jean Jacques Henner. The works come from all life stages of the training period in Alsace until his last picture from the death year 1905. Added to diaries and sketchbooks of the artist, which enable visitors to understand the way a work of art from the first idea to the finished work. In addition to Henner's work, the museum also displays some paintings and sculptures by other artists such as Jean -Baptiste Camille Corot, Henri Michel Chapu, Louis -Léon Adolphe Joseph Cugnot and Thomas Monticelli.
