Museu Paulista

The Museu Paulista ( Museu do Ipiranga ) is a museum in the Brazilian city of São Paulo.

History

The museum was as a monument to the independence of Brazil from Tommaso Gaudenzio Bezzi Italian engineer whose design was adopted in 1881, three years later by the provincial government, planned and built by the Italian architect Luigi Pucci also between 1885-1889. The building is a palace in neo-classical ( eklektistischen ) style, which is designed according to the simplified ideal model of a Renaissance palace. An elegant, provided with porticoes central building with two large side wings characterize the building. The total length of the façade is 123 meters. The realized building is not the original, in the museum model. This provided an additional degree tract before on each side.

The grand opening of the Museu Paulista took place on 7 September 1895. The first director was the German scientist Hermann von Ihering, who contributed significantly to the creation of the museum.

Over the years the palace was provided with additional decorative elements. In particular, two originating from the hand of the Italian sculptor Luigi Brizzolara large statues of the Bandeirantes António Raposo Tavares and Fernão Dias Paes were erected.
