Museum Catharijneconvent

The museum Catharijneconvent Utrecht is a national museum of religious art in Utrecht since 1979. Already one year after its opening, the museum was named the 1980 European Museum of the Year.

The museum houses a collection of historical and art historical exhibits, especially the collection of the Archbishop of Utrecht, who lived until 1979 in St. Catherine's convent. The collection period runs from the early Middle Ages to the 21st century. The collection provides insights into Christian art and culture, and the history of the Netherlands.

The Dutch paintings from the 16th and 17th century is presented by works of Jan van Scorel, Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Pieter Saenredam. From works of recent art works of art by Jan Toorop, Shinkichi Tajiri, Frans Franciscus and Marc Mulders are seen.
