Mustafa Çağrıcı

Mustafa Çağrıcı (* 1950 in Taşlıhüyük in Sivas ) is the reigning Grand Mufti of Istanbul in Turkey.

The elementary school he attended in his native county Şarkışla and the Imam Hatip High School in Sivas. In 1973 he finished his studies at the High Islamic Institute Istanbul ( " İstanbul Yüksek Islam Enstitüsü "). He then worked for six years as imam and preacher. His shortened military service he rendered in 1975. During the same year he became a teacher at Imam Hatip High School in Sivas. 1977 Çağrıcı took his position on the High Islamic Institute Istanbul. He wrote his doctoral dissertation and was docent. In 1996 he was professor.

He is a professor of Islamic Theology at Marmara University Istanbul. In the Pope's visit in 2006 in Turkey, Benedict XVI was. accompanied on 30 November 2006 at the Blue Mosque from the Grand Mufti of Istanbul.

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter A Common Word between Us and You (English A Common Word Between Us and You), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (English " Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... " ) submitted (13 October 2007).
