Musth

As musth is the from the " puberty " of the elephant bulls about once a year, almost always referred to in the winter, occurring phase of the aggressiveness that is triggered by a testosterone boost and can persist for several months. The bull elephants can at this time also other animals, such as rhinos, attack and injure. Also, the risk for human keepers in zoos is very high at this time.

The musth is probably no rutting because the female elephant have no annual rut rhythm. Bulls in musth also attack female elephants and show no inclination to copulate with them.

Working elephants in musth are traditionally tied with thick ropes between two large trees and receive only minimal amounts of food. Under such conditions, the musth ends after two to three days by itself

Etymology

The word derives from the Persian مست ( mast, spoken / ' mʌst / ) and actually meant " drugged " or " noise ". In modern usage is so designated in humans and other living enjoyment, fun, pleasure or satisfaction when you have achieved something. In this sense, therefore, finds the word in popular culture often in song lyrics and in the name of some Indian TV shows and Bollywood films like Masti (2004 ) and the Kannada movie Masti (2007).
