Mutterbach (Blies)

In the valley of the parent stream, immediately before the passage of the A 8

The mother Bach is a 8.6 km long right tributary of the assemblies in the eastern Saarland, which opens in Limbach. Until the 19th century, the older name Limbach was in use for the stream. This name was superseded for the purpose of dissimilation of Bach and settlement name. In the 20th century the river was designated as Woog or parent stream. In the catchment area of the stream are Limbach, Eschweilerhof, Abstäberhof and Bavarian cabbage yard.

Course

The Muttersbach just East of Rohrbach (Saar) about 500 meters southeast of the climbing mountain ( 306 m asl ), which is here the watershed between the assemblies and Saar, at about 270 m above sea level and runs almost in a north-easterly direction before it in Limbach coming from the right leads into the assemblies.

On his way there with him several transport routes, first the A 6, which he traversed about 2.5 km to its source from north to south, then the former imperial road or state road 40 and the railway line Saarbrücken- Ludwigshafen. After 5.5 km, it crosses the A 8, which is a walking barrier, and then flows through the settlement development of Limbach.

Use history

The area belonged to the monastery in the Middle Ages Wörschweiler and then got to Palatinate -Zweibrücken. In 1564 the geographer Tilemann Stella mentions in his description and map of the offices Zweibrücken and Kirkel in the catchment area of the stream numerous larger and smaller pond. He describes the creek and its five small tributaries:

" The Limpach or Limpacher stream, which runs down through the Zwen unnd zweintzigsten hauptgrundt, hatt inn their Lengden bey 5900 steps, which makes 1 1/4 Meil less 100 steps. She rises Auss many laugh, flowing with as gemeinlich by large gemös unnd gebruch down, but a lot of fine weighing. Inn this fall: The Eischweiler Bächlin, 1400 is a long step ... The Eischweiller is bornfluß long 210 steps ... The Bucholtzer river is long 700 step ... The flößgen from the cellar Waegell is long 540 step ... The Grunbach 1600 is a long step. "

Of the 13 described by Stella ponds in the catchment area of this Bach's mother brook flowed through even following six:

" The top Buchhholtzer is wagk long 80 step and 40 wide ... The unnderst book Holtzer is wagk long 180 steps unndt 50 wide, he hatt Zwey horns ... All of these ponds were drained in the 19th century green land reclamation; the remarkable medieval pond dams are usually still preserved. Since the 20th century the water-rich valley is used to supply water to the industrial town of Neunkirchen ( Saar). In the administrative and territorial reform in Saarland in 1974 the valley that until then belonged to Kirkel was, as far north of the A 6 runs, the city of Neunkirchen slammed, now promotes water there.
