Myrtis of Anthedon

Myrtis ( Μυρτίς ancient Greek ) was a Greek poet of the 5th century BC

According to Plutarch, Myrtis came from the Boeotian town Anthedon. In the Suda is reported her students being Corinna and Pindar had found; because in ancient literature, however, often temporally distant from each other, people are brought into connection, this message will be regarded as untrustworthy. It is the same with the reference on Korinna that Myrtis Pindar had defeated in Agonen; according to Aelian this was even five times been the case.

That there has been a highly respected poet, is evident, for instance through the Tatian's report, which mentioned a situation created by sculptor Boiskos statue of Myrtis. Also the assessment of living in the 2nd century BC Epigrammatikers Antipater of Sidon, the queues them to the nine best poets of Greece, witnessed their notoriety.

From her work has received nothing. All that is known of the content of a poem, which describes Plutarch in prose form. In this the local Boeotian myth Eunostos is treated.
