N-Gage (device)

The N -Gage from Nokia is a mobile phone with built- game console. Was published in the handheld on October 7, 2003.

Description

In the early 2000s there were more and more players who wore the same a mobile phone and a GameBoy, the most popular handheld with it. Nokia recognized the opportunity to combine these two devices in one. In addition, it offers multiplayer, Internet and PDA functions.

The N- Gage has a Symbian OS.

Despite the great attention before publication N -Gage was not as successful as hoped by Nokia. Most players blame the low compared to the Game Boy Advance selection of games and the high price. Also had to replace the cumbersome games every time the battery to be removed. Also the calls with the N -Gage first generation got awkward. Since phone speaker and microphone are located on the narrow top of the device, you had to keep phoning the top edge of the device on the cheek, which caused many bystanders for strange looks people due to the unusual sight. To this end, sat under N -Gage fans, the term "Side Talking " (Eng. about " speak of the page" ) by.

The quality of the games available is the other, on the usual " mobile games " and is roughly equivalent to games for the Gameboy Advance. Java mobile games are rarely larger than 200 KB, but N -Gage games often only 32 or even 64 MB MMCs enough space for the game data. Reservoir levels are normally stored in a 4 MB features a large internal memory. N -Gage users Scores only with a file manager or the Nokia specially developed "Game Manager" Manage. With him it is possible to save memory stalls on a memory card and then delete the device memory. Only be supported N -Gage games. There are about 50 games on offer, partly networking is supported via Bluetooth or the Internet.

Many of these problems have been fixed in the next version, the N -Gage QD, but also saves much - the QD is substantially more expensive than a standard N -Gage.

November 2, 2009 Nokia announced that from September 2010, the N-Gage platform is set. New mobile phones are no longer shipped with the N -Gage application. In the future, the download of the games from the Nokia Store.

GPRS connections often have a high latency, i.e. a data packet duration of 700 ms, a conventional internet connection, but only one-tenth or less.
