N6 -methyl adenosine ( m6A ) is a rare and nucleoside is present in the tRNA, rRNA, mRNA and snRNA. It consists of the β -D - ribofuranose (sugar ) and the N6 -methyladenine. It is a derivative of adenosine, which is methylated at the amino group.
It is produced enzymatically by methylation of adenosine by the N6- adenosine - methyltransferase.
The dimethylated variant is the N6, N6 - dimethyladenosine.
