Nacho Novo

Ignacio Javier Gómez Novo ( born March 26, 1979 in Ferrol ), called Nacho Novo, is a Spanish footballer. The striker has been playing in February 2014 for the English League One club Carlisle United.

Career

Nacho Novo, who was born in the north of Spain, began his career in the youth team in Huesca. In the 2001 /02 season he played for the first time with the first team of SD Huesca. Even during the season joining Novo free transfer to Scotland to Raith Rovers. In 37 games Nacho Novo scored 20 goals in the Rovers and thus other Scottish clubs were aware of the young Spaniard. In the summer of 2002, he was sold for 150,000 euros to FC Dundee, where he played for an entire season in the Scottish Premier League. In his second season at Dens Park Novo scored 25 goals and helped Dundee thus in the first round of the UEFA Cup.

In the highly successful first season with the Rangers Novo scored 25 goals in 48 games and helped his team thus winning the championship title in the Scottish Premier League.

In November 2004, Novo was a death threat in the vicinity of his home sprayed on a wall, next month the tires of his car were slashed.

During the season 2005/06 Novo injured his right foot and fell for an extended period. After his return he failed to score a goal in the remaining twenty games.

On 21 December 2007 he signed for another two years with the Rangers. On 1 May 2008, he scored the winning penalty in the penalty shoot-out against ACF Florence in the UEFA Cup. The Rangers then reached the final. In the final itself he was even off the bench at the registry of 0:1 in the 77th minute for Sasa Papac. The 0-2 defeat against Zenit St. Petersburg could not prevent, however.

On 21 May 2010 his obligation by the Spanish side Sporting Gijon ( for two years) was announced.

In February 2012, he signed a contract with Legia Warsaw and became the Polish Cup winner.

In the summer of 2012, he returned to Spain and signed for his former club SD Huesca. After just one season, Novo moved in October to the Scottish second division club Greenock Morton, where his contract was terminated by mutual agreement after 3 months. On February 11, 2014, he signed with the English third division side Carlisle United a contract until the end of the season.
