NAJAD is a Swedish manufacturer of sailing yachts.

General

Since 1971 the Swedish shipyard builds Najadvarvet AB in Henån on the boat building Orust in the western archipelago north of Gothenburg under the brand NAJAD sailing yachts. So far, over 2000 boats have been delivered.

History

(Also on the island Orust ) Originally founded in 1971 as a small craft operating from the boat builder Bernd Arvidsson in Kungsviken, the shipyard in the late 1970s moved first to the marina of Henån to then relate the early nineties to the present site in Varvsvägen in Henån. The first model was the NAJAD 34 During these years the shipyard made ​​a name for stable, seaworthy blue water cruising yachts mostly with Center Cockpit 32-51 feet. Well-known models from this era are the NAJAD 320 NAJAD 391 and 460 NAJAD trademarks of NAJAD -yachts is the Bordeaux red waterline.

In 2003, then took over the Dutch businessman Alfred van Wincoop the shipyard by Bernd Arvidsson. Originally from the financial sector, van Wincoop had worked (even owners of several NAJAD yachts ) before taking over a year as a markting manager in the yard. He underwent the NAJAD model range a dramatic change. The German design office judel / Vrolijk & co. ( Friedrich and Rolf Vrolijk Yudel ) gave the new models, modern, sporty lines and the new interior designer Rhoades / Young Interiors ( originally Dick Young Interiors ) from London created an elegant light fittings. Financial constraints in the course of the global financial and economic crisis 2008/2009 forced Alfred van Wincoop 2009, leave the yard. The new owner was the English Animatrix Capital Ltd.. To NAJAD included the Swedish brand Maxi -Yachts. Leadership in January 2011 were shipyard boss (CEO), Mikael Gustavsson, Chairman ( Chairman ) Hans Johansson and sales and marketing director Magnus Ridderstad.

In August 2011, the shipyard was forced to declare bankruptcy and was taken over by the company also located on the island of Orust motor yacht manufacturer " North -West" in October of the same year. The production of ships is now at the "North -West" in Vindön instead. In the NAJAD shipyard on Varvsvägen in Henån under the name OYS Orust Yacht Service was created a service operation for winter storage, repair and alteration of yachts.

The North West & NAJAD AB ( Director: Benny Martinsson ) then went in February 2013 into insolvency. Their property was taken over by the Swedish businessman Runo Gillholm, the NAJAD brand as well as the shapes of the current models NAJAD 355, NAJAD 410 NAJAD 440cc, NAJAD 440AC, NAJAD 505 and NAJAD 570 in the fall of 2013 to the Swedish shipyard Lidköpings Båtsnickeri (manufacturer of SwedeStar -yachts ) resold. Under the leadership of CEO Håkan Bengtsson and sales manager Olof Seiving then returned NAJAD back to its original location in Henån where NAJAD sailing yachts are built at Orust Yacht Service with old NAJAD personnel.

Locations

All fiberglass parts ( hulls, decks, structure, and other moldings ) emerged in its own production in Åmål, about 150 km northeast of Orust. These components have been built as a foam sandwich in a vacuum - infusion methods using vinyl ester resin and Divynizell foam. Hull, deck, supporting bulkheads and keel were then joined and later expanded closed.

The final assembly and the expansion found then the parent plant in Henån instead. Here was located next to the assembly halls and joinery, storage and administration. At this location, the (a former Najad employees and others) went to the insolvency of two private investors, a service center and winter storage should arise.
