Najib Razak

Najib Razak ( born July 23, 1953 in Kuala Lipis, Pahang ) is a Malaysian politician and, since April 2009, the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia since independence in 1957. His name with full title is Dato ' Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak.

Life

Najib Razak was born on 23 July 1953 in Kuala Lipis in Pahang State. He is the eldest son of Prime Minister Abdul Razak, the second Prime Minister of the country, who served from 1970 to 1976. It belongs to the party UMNO, the dominant political party in Malaysia.

He went to elementary and middle school at St. John's Institution in Kuala Lumpur. Later he went to the Malvern College in Worcestershire, England, then moved to the University of Nottingham, where in 1974 he received a bachelor's degree in industrial economics. After graduating, he returned to Malaysia and was then employed at the Bank Negara Malaysia. Later he worked for the oil company Petronas.

Political career

Minister of Defence

1976 Najib was first elected as an MP in the Malaysian House of Commons. At age 23, he was there until then youngest-ever elected MP in Malaysia. In the following years, he held various positions in the party and government.

1991 Najib was defense minister. During his tenure in 1993 Malaysian soldiers were sent to Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to participate in the local peace missions. Malaysia participated also at the UNOSOM II operation in Somalia, there was a Malaysian soldier during the Battle of Mogadishu killed. Later, Najib criticized the UN mission in that too much has been put on military action. Since then, Malaysia preferred more participation in missions to peace enforcement under Chapter 6 of the Charter of the United Nations in peacekeeping missions under Chapter 7 After four years in office, he took over the Education Ministry, which he headed until 2000. After that, he became minister of defense again.

In his second term, the death toll was in the Indian Ocean. He coordinated the support of the affected areas. He also helped Indonesia in arresting the assassin of the attack in Bali in 2002.

Deputy Prime Minister

From 2004 he was deputy prime minister of Malaysia.

On 29 January 2008 he took over the country's presidency of the National Association of Barisan Nasional Perak.

Prime minister

Najib took over on 3 April 2009, the Office of the Prime Minister by his predecessor and party colleague, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. After the electoral victory of his Barisan Nasional coalition government on May 5, 2013, began his second term as prime minister. His cabinet formation on May 16, 2013 showed some changes. Thus, the total number of ministers was reduced and the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education became the new Ministry of Education and Higher Education (Education & Higher Learning Ministry ) merged.
