Nakagyō-ku, Kyoto

Nakagyo -ku (Japanese中 京 区, dt " Central Capital District " ) is one of eleven districts ( ku ) of Kyoto, Japan.

History

The municipality was established on April 1, 1929 from the union of the southern part of Kamigyo -ku with the northern part of Shimogyo -ku.

Geography

He is a downtown district, the center of administration, consumption, tourism and entertainment in Kyoto. To the east of the Kamo traverses the district. Parallel to it runs the Kawaramachistraße, at the intersection lies with the Shijostraße the main shopping area of the city.

Attractions

The three most famous festivals of Kyoto, the Aoi Matsuri, the Gion Matsuri and Jidai Matsuri will be held in Nakagyo -ku. The district is home to many historical sites, temples and museums, including the Castle Nijo - jo ( a former residence of the Tokugawa shogunate ) and the Kyoto International Manga Museum.

The temple Rokkaku - dō was rebuilt after a fire in 1877.
