Nakheel Tower
Nakheel Tower (former project name Al Burj ) was a skyscraper project in the Emirate of Dubai with an estimated height of over one kilometer.
The tower was designed by the state real estate company Nakheel Properties and was part of the planned under the name Nakheel Harbour & Tower project on the coast of Dubai. It was originally to be built at the mouth of the Arabian Canal near the Jumeirah Islands from 2010. The Nakheel Tower should be the tallest building in the world and form a vertical city after its scheduled completion in 2020 within the center of Dubai. On 14 January 2009 it was announced that the realization is interrupted due to the financial crisis for at least a year. In December 2009, the entire construction project was abandoned some says that it is not confirmed. However, there is still no official confirmation from Nakheel Properties ago that the construction project is deleted. However, the realization seems (at least in the foreseeable future ) is hardly conceivable.
Architectural History
The Pinnacle
Originally, the Nakheel Tower project under the name The Pinnacle in the center of the artificial Palm Jumeirah with a height of about 750 meters to be built. The Pinnacle should have 120 floors and contain only extremely luxurious apartments, a large fitness center as well as an observation deck and be completed in 2009. Al Burj
From The Pinnacle, a major new project by the name of Al Burj was in January 2005 ( "The Tower "). Tall Tower
The building was between 2007 and 2008 for a few months the project name Tall Tower, while the real estate company Nakheel was looking for a new location and wanted to commit to a permanent name.
The Nakheel Tower
From Al Burj was 5 October 2008 officially the Nakheel Tower. Nakheel has been advised by the English company WSP Group, the Australian company Van Der Meer Consulting ( VDM) and the American company, Leslie E Robertson Associates ( LERA ). LERA distinguished among other things responsible for the 492 meter Shanghai World Financial Center. The design of the Nakheel Tower is from the Australian architects Woods Bagot. According to Manal Shaheen, Director of Marketing of Nakheel, the company had prepared for the major project for six years.
Financial crisis
After the demand for real estate in Dubai at the end of the year 2008 in the wake of the international financial crisis virtually collapsed, the state project developer Nakheel has announced he will react with the temporary setting of the work on the outstanding prestige building Nakheel Tower on it.
