Nalî

Nali (* 1798 in Celahul, † 1855 in Istanbul) was a Kurdish poet, translator, mathematician and linguist. His real name was Mele Xidir ( Molla Hidir ). He went on study trips to many cities like Sanandaj, Mahabad, Halabja and Sulaimaniya.

In 1830 he made ​​a pilgrimage to Mecca and visited on the way back, Damascus and Istanbul, where he met many Kurdish intellectuals and writers. 1837 the Kurdish principality of Baban was destroyed by the Ottoman Empire in what is now northern Iraq, what motivated him to write poetry. Besides Kurdish spoke and wrote fluent in Arabic and Persian. His poems have been published in today's autonomous region of Kurdistan.
