Candidates

SWAPO

After the presidential elections in 2009 began the discussion of the presidential candidates for the election of 2014. Traditionally, the President of SWAPO Party will also be the presidential candidate of his party. As things stand, this is the current party vice president Hage Geingob will be. Should he run and win the presidential election, he would be the first President of Namibia, does not belong to the tribe of the Ovambo. More chances for the presidential candidacy was also the Secretary General and Minister of Justice Pendukeni Iivula - Ithana that would take office as the first woman to be granted. A slight chance has also Deputy Secretary-General and Security Minister Nangolo Mbumba.

Since President Hifikepunye Pohamba holding the party presidency, but not allowed to run for a third term by the Constitution of Namibia, the Vice President is thus automatically elevated to the presidential candidates.

The Central Committee met on 12 and 13 March 2011 for the fourth time. Here it became clear that the presidential nomination is not decided where Hage Geingob and Pendukeni Iivula - Ithana still the greatest opportunities to be given, but also the Minister for Housing and Rural Development Jerry Ekandjo has expressed interest. Prime Minister Nahas Angula, however, has ruled out a candidacy.

In October 2012, expressed an interest in the position of Vice - President in a party SWAPO Party three party members. Besides Geingob these are Iivula - Ithana and Ekandjo.

On 1 December 2012, Geingob was able to beat his two rivals and was confirmed in the office of Vice - party president. He is so as a presidential candidate in the presidential elections of 2014.
