Nana Jorjadze

Nana Dschordschadse (Georgian ნანა ჯორჯაძე; born August 24, 1948 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian film director and screenwriter. She lives in Berlin and filming mostly in Georgia.

Life

From 1968 to 1973 she studied at the Art Academy in Tbilisi, design and architecture. During the Prague Spring of 1968, she attended the Czechoslovak capital, so the support reform- communist ideas was suspected and was allowed to leave the Soviet Union for 18 years.

From 1974 to 1980 she studied at Tengiz Abuladze and Irakli Kwirikadse at the Film and Theatre School Tbilisi. Her diploma film The Journey to Sopot ( 1980) about two outsiders was seven years banned by the Soviet censorship. In 1987 he premiered at the Film Festival Oberhausen, where it won the Grand Prize. In 1986, her first feature film Robinson Crusoe, or My English grandfather who deals critically with the Georgian history. He too did not want to release the censorship demanded extensive cuts. Just by chance he came to the Cannes Film Festival where it won the Golden Camera 1987.

From 1985 to 1991 Dschordschadse taught directing at the Georgian Film School in Tbilisi. In 1991, she moved to Moscow, worked until 1995 as a professor of film directing at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. In the late 1990s, she went to Germany and settled in Berlin. Since then she has worked in Georgia and in Berlin. Her film 1001 a love recipes chef was nominated in 1997 as Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. 27 Missing Kisses was awarded a prize at the film festival in Brussels in 2001 as the best European feature film.

Dschordschadse was a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival (1992 ), the Film Festival of Venice (1997 ) and Berlin (1998).

She is married to the director Professor Irakli Kwirikadse, who wrote the screenplay for five of its eleven films.
