Nana Smith

Nana Smith Rogers, born Nana Miyagi (Japanese宮城 ナナ, Miyagi Nana; born April 10, 1971 in Seattle, Washington ) is a Japanese- American former tennis player.

Biography

Nana Smith was born in the United States, but spent much of her childhood in Japan. In 1988, she played tennis professionally. She went to in all Grand Slam tournaments in both single as well as in women's doubles. Their only victory over a Top 10 player, she celebrated in 1994 against the US-American Lindsay Davenport, who was at that time the number 8 in the world rankings. Its highest ranking in tennis single 1995 was 51st on the WTA Tour Miyagi could not win a tournament. She reached the final only in 1996 in Surabaya, Indonesia.

In Tennis doubles her career was much more successful. She won a total of ten tournaments. In 1997, she was ranked at number twelve of the double world rankings. In 1993, she reached with the Indonesian Yayuk Basuki before the semi-finals of the U.S. Open. Another major success was the victory of the Japanese Naoko Kijimuta about Serena and Venus Williams at the Australian Open 1998.

Nana Smith is with James Rogers, the great-grandson of actor and comedian Will Rogers married.
