Nan’ao (Yilan)

Nan'ao (Chinese南澳 乡, Pinyin Nan'ao Xiang, Tongyong Pinyin Nan -ao Siang, W.-G. Nan -ao Hsiang ), is a village with about 6000 inhabitants in Yilan County of the Republic of China on Taiwan. The inhabitants belong to the majority of the indigenous people of the Atayal.

Nan'ao is 740 km ² the largest area of the municipality in the north- eastern Taiwan Yilan County and occupies the southern part. It lies on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The municipality is part of the central mountains of Taiwan, that's enough here to the sea. In the southwest of the community of the mountains reach the Nanhubeishan (南湖 北山) about 35 km from the sea a height of 3535 meters.

By Nan'ao lead the coastal road Su'ao - Hualian and the parallel railway line. In the town there are four stations. The settlements Nan'aos lie mostly along the road and the railway line near the coast, while the rough central and western part of the municipality is virtually uninhabited. The main town Nan'ao located in the northeastern part of the township near the border with Su'ao.
