Nani Roma

Nani Roma, actually Joan Roma Cararach ( born February 17, 1972 in Barcelona, Spain ) is a rally-raid driver. Besides Hubert Auriol and Stéphane Peterhansel he is one of the drivers who have won the Dakar Rally on both the motorcycle and by car.

Career

Roma was established in 1998 enduro champions. In 2004, he was able to win on a KTM Dakar Rally. Then he got off the bike to on the car and drove first for Mitsubishi. In the 2005 Dakar Rally, he finished sixth, one year later a third party. In 2009 he was able to choose a stage for himself, but was in the standings due to massive technical problems of his new Mitsubishi Racing Lancer only tenth. He was the only one of four launched Mitsubishi drivers who could ever reach the goal.

In 2006, Roma in Spain part in the Race of Champions. On June 5, 2006, his co-driver Henri Magne crashed on the sixth and final stage of the Rally Morocco fatal.

In June 2009 he took part in the rally Transibérico in the X - raid BMW X3 CC.

2011 saw the launch Nani Roma for the X - raid team in the Rally of Tunisia.

Results in the Dakar Rally

  • In the Dakar 2012, he went for the German mini-team in a MINI All4 Racing at the start, winning three stages and finished third in total automobile result to second place behind team-mate and winner Stéphane Peterhansel.
  • In the 2013 edition of the Dakar, he won with his mini four stages and finished second in the overall standings to fourth place.

After the Roma had some time in the lead, team-mate Peterhansel could oust him during the 12th stage of the tip position. According to a statement his team Peterhansel finally settled Roma reclaim the overall lead, so this gave a fourth place at the 13th and final stage for the overall victory. With his co-driver Michel Perin, he won the vote by a margin of 5:38 minutes on his team-mate Stéphane Peterhansel.
