Nanumanga

Nanumaga or Nanumaga is an island of Tuvalu in the Pacific Ocean.

Geography

The island is 3 km long and 1.5 km wide. The northernmost point is Te Kaupapa, the southernmost point of Te Papa. On the island there is a small saltwater lake named Vaiatoa to grow in the mangroves. By the lake there is a path of stones, which connects the two villages on the island toga and Matematefaga. There are also two smaller saltwater lakes in the south of the island, and Loto'aiga Haapai.

History

1986 divers discovered a 40 -meter distance below the water cave, were found in the evidence of settlement of the island since 6000 BC.

Administratively, the island is divided into three districts: Toga, Tokelau and Lemuli.

On the island lived 589 inhabitants (as of 2005); they speak a dialect which is typical of North Tuvalu.
