The Nanzen University (Japanese南山 大学, Nanzan daigaku; engl Nanzan University; abbreviation: . Nanzandai (南山 大) ) is a private university in Catholic-run in the district of the city of Nagoya Showa on Honshū, Japan.
General
The Nanzan University was founded in 1932 by the Divine Word Missionary Joseph Reiners as Nanzan middle school under the previous system ( Kyusei Nanzan chūgakkō ). In 1946 she became the Nanzan School for Foreign Languages under the previous system ( Kyusei Nanzan gaikokugo Semmon Gakko ). With the great education reform the year 1949, they finally got the status of a university and its present name. In 1995 she was with the Nagoya Seirei tanki daigaku in Seto, with whom she had previously had a university partnership, merged. The Nanzan University is the only Catholic university in the region Chūbu with coeducation. The current President is the German theologian Michael Calmano.
The Nanzan University strives to provide an " education based on the Catholic worldview " ( katorikku sekaikan ni Gakko Kyoiku motozuita ). Their motto is "For the dignity of man" ( ningen no songen no tame ni, lat Hominis Dignitati ).
As a feature of Nanzan University, many international university partnerships are providing for annual exchange programs of students. So it is, for example, Member of the Association of Southeast and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities and participates in the International Student Exchange Program. Here, exchange students concentrate from Western countries on campus in Nagoya and exchange students from other Asian countries on campus in Seto. The Nanzan University also maintains partnerships with other Catholic universities in Japan, such as to Sophia University, and organized in the framework of these partnerships, an annual sports festival.
The name of the University is derived from the field of their founding ago, the former as Minamiyama ( Kun - readings of the kanji for Nanzan ) has been known fro. In addition to the designation Nanzan an association with endurance and hardness are produced, and the hope of permanently powerful graduates produce, are expressed. Locations, faculties and graduate colleague
The Nanzan University has seven faculties and graduate colleague spread over three locations in Nagoya and Seto.
