Narcís Oller

Narcis Oller i Moragas ( born August 10, 1846 in Valls, Catalonia, † July 26, 1930 in Barcelona ) was a Catalan writer.

Life

His parents were Josep Oller Yxart and pink Moragas Tavern. After his father died early, his mother moved with the first two years of Narcis in her parents' home. The Moragas were one of the most important families in Valls and his mother's brother, Josep Moragas Tavern, took over the role of father for Narcis. He grew up in an intellectual and liberal environment.

The first literature, which he read from the extensive library of his uncle and later tutor, were books of French classical music, but especially French and Spanish romance. It was his love of modern French literature; later also Russian.

Following the example of his uncle, he studied law in Barcelona. There, he became a "convinced democrats." But the revolution of 1868 disillusioned and alienated him from politics. In keeping with his background he now felt himself to be moderate liberals and conservative catalanistes. 1873 came as a lawyer in the administrative service of the Province of Barcelona. At the same time he continued his literary work.

After ten years as a writer, in which he wrote very successful romantic works in Spanish, he moved to the writers of realism. He had met Émile Zola and has since attracted by the style of the French naturalists.

He also began to write in Catalan. Given the restrictions, which the Catalan language was subject in the literature, Narcis Oller is considered to be the founder of modern Catalan novel and is considered a symbol of the Renaixença ( katalan. for " rebirth "). His move in the language gave the Joes Florals from 1877 a strong boost. In this " poetry competition " he was awarded the main prize of the 1879, 1880 and 1884 for his work.

In the emerging modernist tendencies and writers with new litererischen Narcis Oller was no more room. His resignation was reinforced by the death of two esteemed by his critics, his friend Joan Sardà and his cousin Josep Yxart Moragas, with whom he had grown up together. Work

Narcis Oller is the preeminent novelist Catalan. His first, in 1882 published novel, La papallona (The Butterfly ) appeared soon after, with a foreword by Zola in French.
