Narcissism of small differences

Narcissism of small differences, called Sigmund Freud in his essay The uneasiness in culture (1930 ) " a convenient and relatively harmless satisfaction of the inclination to aggression ." In all human communities hostile resentment was not repealed under otherwise equivalent people. It facilitates the community cohesion when the aggression is addressed rather than inward, to neighboring, related communities.

In a harmless form is expressed the narcissism of small differences in rivalries between neighboring peoples ( Portuguese against Spaniard ), regions ( Bavaria against Prussia ) or cities (Cologne against Dusseldorf ). Even anti-Semitism explains Freud in his book Moses and the Monotheism (1939 ) partly different with this narcissistic inclination to aggression, turns against a minority that is not to their "host nations" fundamentally different, but " often indefinable way as especially the Nordic peoples " and what counts even more, their relatives " demonstrate the ability to compete in the workforce and where they allow, provide valuable contributions to all cultural achievements ".
