Jonquil (Narcissus jonquilla )

The jonquil (Narcissus jonquilla ) is a flowering plant in the genus Narcissus (Narcissus ) from the family of the Amaryllis family ( Amaryllidaceae ). From the botanist John W. Blanchard this type is provided in the section Jonquillae.

Description

The jonquil is a slim narcissus, achieved the stature heights of up to 40 centimeters and thus has one of the longest Blütenstandsschäfte among narcissi species. Their leaves are narrow, almost cylindrical and rush -like and medium green.

The flower is uniformly golden brown, fragrant and has a diameter of up to 3 centimeters. The Hauptkronblätter are pointed, the corona is only 4 millimeters high, but 1 centimeter wide.

Dissemination

The species was originally distributed only on the Iberian Peninsula. However, it came relatively early in the garden culture. As a refugee garden is overgrown and forms in southern France, Italy and Dalmatia wild populations.
