Narendra Patel, Baron Patel

Narendra Babubhai Patel, Baron Patel, KT, Kt, FMedSci, FRSE ( born May 11, 1938 in Lindi, Tanzania today ) is a British- Tanzanian obstetrician and Chancellor of the University of Dundee.

Life

Patel came as the son of Indian immigrants to the world. He studied until 1964 medicine at the University of St. Andrews and was thereafter over thirty years at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee employed from 1974 as a consultant obstetrician. Since his appointment as Life Peer in 1999, he sits as a Cross Bencher, ie not tied to a party in the British House of Lords. In 2006 he was appointed Chancellor of the University of Dundee.

Patel is married and has three children.

Title and Awards

In 1969, Patel Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 1988, he was appointed Fellow; 1992 to 1995 he was Vice President and 1995-1998 President of this organization. In 2000, the election as a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh took place. Several universities conferred honorary doctorate Patel, numerous medical associations appointed him an honorary member. 1997 appointed him the Queen Knight Bachelor, he was elevated to the status of a Life Peer in 1999 and since then bears the official title Baron Patel of Dunkeld, Perth and Kinross. In 2009 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Thistle, the highest Scottish knightly honor.
